BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF LESSON
Students will create a Graphic Organizer/ Foldable. The design/art work will consist of students using charcoal to create a complex and interesting design/art work based on Kathe Kollwitz’s artwork. The art works, notes, and vocabulary will be added to the Graphic Organizer. Students will add their completed Graphic Organizer to their Interactive Student Notebook (ISN)

· Paste foldable into ISN

- To explore personal reactions to the Holocaust using her art in their graphic organizer.
- To investigate the life of Kathe Kollwitz, an artist and Holocaust escapee, who protested the war using art.
- To compare and contrast the art of Kathe Kollwitz with that of American artists of the same time period.
- To explore the techniques Kathe Kollwitz used especially charcoal pencil.
- To have a completed Graphic Organizer to paste into there ISN
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF LESSON
Students will create a Graphic Organizer/ Foldable. The design/art work will consist of students using charcoal to create a complex and interesting design/art work based on Kathe Kollwitz’s artwork. DAY – 1
- Have dry erase board prepped with info needed
- Have materials already distributed at students work areas
- Distribute the ISN folders
- Table of Contents heading in ISN
- Explain the activity and show examples of what is expected as the outcome
- View short video on Kathe Kollwitz
- View power point on Kathe Kollwitz and the impact of war had on her art/ compare with artist in America
- View how-to video that is ready to go and downloaded on overhead computer
- Check for understanding of active
- Make Foldable/ Graphic Organizer
- Make small Kollwitz drawing example, paste on pop out area
- Make small political poster example, paste on pop out area
· Paste foldable into ISN
- Clean up and set up time at the end of the lesson
- Ask questions of students to check for understanding
