PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
Working at the forefront of new approaches to teaching, learning, and technology, my classroom would be grounded in strong traditional foundations. This strong core groundwork in foundations of art and design will give students the confident skills and knowledge to execute any artistic pursuit these creative minds can think of.
With the roles of artists changing, and more and more career paths in the creative fields to chose from, I feel it is my duty as an educator to make a student’s art experiences enjoyable and relevant to art history, as well as foundations of art and design. I will need to choose a lesson plan relevant to young people's lives, provide interesting challenges for the students and ensure that students have the necessary artistic skills to meet those challenges. Also, I think it is important to provide choice, encourage teamwork, allow experimentation and encourage key elements and principals of creativity within the arts.
Community involvement is a huge component in art education. I will bring the community to my students in the form of outside art and visiting artists, and by always taking the intuitive to keep educating myself. My students will also reach out to the community through volunteer work, field trips and by helping other students understand the different art career choices that are available to them. I also believe it is important to provide students with any and every educational opportunity that can be presented to them in order to: (1) free the creative powers of the student, (2) give the student the confidence in their own creative ability, and (3) make the student's career choice easier for them to make.
